CustomDUO Modules

 
CustomDUO LED modules for the Petzl Duo offer a significant upgrade to halogen or LED replacement bulbs. The Petzl Duo is an outstanding low cost caving lamp, and can be easily modified to helmet mounting 'fixo' specification.
 
 
CustomDUO modules are easy to fit, stylish and use the most recent high power LED technology, including Cree XPGs (the brightest and most efficient single die LEDs avilable), to greatly increase light output and battery duration. CustomDUO modules are without doubt the brightest and most efficient retrofit modules available. 
 
A flexible range of CustomDUO modules are available to meet individual needs, including single power modules, and modules featuring multiple power settings and user friendly modes developed specifically for cavers. The modules feature efficient current regulation circuitry, and thermal management as required. 
 
CustomDUO modules have been designed to maximise the surface area of aluminium in order to best manage the high levels of heat generated by high power LEDs within lamps that were not originally intended to accomodate this technology, essential to protect the longevity of the modules and optimise LED efficiency.  
 
 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  

 

 

 

 

 

Gecko (Mk II Spot) Modules

 

Mk II single LED spot modules, with Geckos !! Direct replacement for original Petzl reflector and halogen bulb. Incorporating XPG LEDs and dedicated optic providing a smooth far reaching focussed beam with good peripheral spill. Single and multiple power regulated version of the Gecko modules are available with outputs up to 260 lumen. Easy fitting via a screw in mes bulb base. 

 

Can be used in conjunction with the Petzl 14 LED Modu'led or upgrade this with CustomDUO 'Gecko' side modules (see below).  

 

 

Gecko (Side) Modules

 

Single LED positioned close to window for smooth flood output. Designed to work with the Gecko modules (above). Fitted by an easy 2 pin push fit directly into existing Duo pilot bulb connection. Single and multiple power regulated modules available, including Cree XPG modules with forward bias miniature reflector for maximum impact at low power settings. Increased light ouput, enhanced light quality, and more efficient than standard Petzl Modu'led units using arrays of 5mm LEDs.  

 

 

 

 

  

Full-face Modules

 

Two LEDs, one focused and one flood with dedicated optics for optimum light output and efficiency. The ultimate high output (280 lumen) insert for your duo. Incorporating Cree XPGs with cool or neutral white output. Featuring a range of useful regulated power settings for effective battery management. Very simple, reliable push fit. No requirement for a Petzl 14 LED Modu'led or CustomDUO side module.

Please note, we get a lot of questions about the polarity of some early pre 2004 Duos. CustomDUO modules work with all Petzl Duos. For more information on this please see the fitting guide

 

* Cool white or neutral white XPG LEDs available. Lumen figures quoted for cool white R5 LEDs. Neutral white R4 LEDs take cool edge off of light output associated with brightest R5 LEDs, popular at the expense of a few lumens light output.

It is quick and easy to fit CustomDUO modules to your Petzl Duo. See fitting guide. CustomDUO modules work with any Duo constructed since 2004 PetzlDUO. Earlier units were built configured to the opposite polarity. If you have an earlier Duo, both the Petzl 14 LED array and CustomDUO modules can be run by fitting the AA batteries in the opposite polarity in the battery box. 

 

Battery arrangements and capacities will vary considerably. CustomDUO modules incorporate power settings optimised in order to best suit caving application, and importantly keep operation as simple as possible. The regulated power settings for each module are given in mA. To determine the approximate regulated duration of light on your battery arrangement at a given power setting, simply divide the mAh capacity of your cell pack by the mA power draw at a given setting. See notes on battery duration.

 

CustomDUO modules feature current regulation circuitry. Once the batteries are discharged and have insufficient power to regulate the LEDs, the modules will continue to run for a significant period at reducing power, often referred to as 'slow death', extremely useful if spare batteries are not available.  

 

If using NiMh rechargeable batteries, CustomDUO recommends low self discharge cells such as 2000mAh Sanyo Eneloops. Higher capacity AA cells are often a false economy.
