CustomPITLAMP Modules

 
Mining lamp headsets have been widely used by UK cavers, who have adapted these versatile head sets, typically in conjunction with Mk I Petzl Zoom helmet mounted battery boxes, an obvious evolution from the original waist mounted lead acid battery packs. There have also been commercially available caving lamps based on mining lamp headsets, most notably the Speleo technics FX and headlite range. All of the above are potentially upgradeable !!   
 
CustomPITLAMP LED modules offer a significant upgrade, the brightest and most efficient retrofit available, for mining lamp headsets.  CustomPITLAMP modules directly replace the original bulb and reflector, or provide an amazing upgrade for early LED retrofit units. CustomPITLAMP modules can be easily fitted (utilising exisiting rubber seal and glass) with basic tools, into any of the conventional (e.g. Oldham/ CEAG) mining lamp headsets, and can also be used with Speleotechnics FX and headlites. A range of modules are available, incorporating the highest efficiency Cree XPG LEDs and providing output up to 400 lumen, as well as low cost modules suited to upgrading group and club lamps.
 
The standard CustomPITLAMP PL Series modules operate in the range of 3.6-6.0 Volts, and are therefore suitable for 3 or 4 cell NiMh (or equivilent) battery configurations, including Speleotechnics Headlites and FX3. Modules are also available for lamps operating on battery configurations outside of this voltage range (see below).
 
CustomPITLAMP modules are available with various combinations of flood and focus beam profiles, and regulated power levels settings, to meet individual needs and provide an optimised balance of light to the caver. Importantly, CustomDUO modules have been designed to maximise the surface area of aluminium in order to best manage the significant heat levels generated by high power LEDs within lamps that were not originally intended to accomodate this technology. This is essential in order to protect the longevity of the modules and optimise LED efficiency, all helping to make CustomPITLAMP modules the most robust mining lamp LED upgrades available. 
 
 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

PL Series Modules (3.6-6.0v input*)

 

The core range of CustomPITLAMP modules incorporating two Cree XPG LEDs (the brightest and most efficient single die LEDs avilable) operating simultaneously to provide an excellent balance of flood and focussed distant light. PL Series modules feature simple, robust operation with 3 regulated power levels from two independent current regulated circuits, providing long durations and light outputs of 400+ lumens. Available in an attractive range of anodised colours. Suitable for any 3 or 4 nimh cell lamp (or equivilent) 3.6v - 6.0v input*. Includes Speleotechnics FX3 and Headlite lamps (NiMh and li-ion).

 

 

 * As the maximum input for the standard PL Series CustomPITLAMP modules is 6.0 volts, they are not suitable for use with Speleo Technics FX5s, kidney packs or other 5 cell arrangements that charge up to 7.0+ volts. For this, see our PL-X5 FX5 specific modules. 

 

The standard PL Series CustomPITLAMP modules are also unsuitable for use with lower voltage 2 cell 2.4 Volt systems such as the Speleo Technics FX2. See our PL-X2 FX2 specific modules.   

 

 

 

CustomPITLAMP Fitting Guide 

 

 

 

* Cool white or neutral white XPG LEDs available. Lumen figures quoted for cool white R5 LEDs. Neutral white R4 LEDs take cool edge off of light output associated with brightest R5 LEDs, popular at the expense of a few lumens light output.
